Fireman Activities - Week 2

This past week we did a couple more firefighter activities. Just a couple!

Using chalk, I wrote numbers and letters on our patio. Then I handed John a squirt bottle and said 'The number 8 is on fire!! Go put out the fire with your water!'. Then my little fire fighter would find the correct letter/number and squirt it with water. He really liked this and even asked for me to write more letters and numbers after he did it one time through.





While John practiced his fire fighting skills, Matthew tried his hand at coloring with chalk. He made maybe 2 marks and then tried to eat the chalk. :)



We ended our week (after doing little things like coloring, doing puzzles, playing with his train set ALL DAY LONG, etc) with a visit to a real fire truck! A friend from high school owns a company where you can 'rent' a fire truck for your birthday party. They had the fire truck out at a toy store as a promotional thing so we headed on over so the boys could check it out. It was really neat and John even got to help spray the hose! Very cool!

Feature on this Fabulous Friday

As if you even had to ask, I didn't craft for myself for this week's For ME Friday. Hmmmm...this is working out awesome so far!

Pretty Girl Bib {tutorial!}

One of the several gifts I made my sister for her baby shower last weekend was this cutey cute bib.



Don't you love it?! Want to make one for your favorite little baby girl? Well, this is how I did it.

Supplies:

-scrap fabric
-hot glue or fabric glue
-sewing tools (machine, thread, scissors, etc)

1. Use a bib to trace and cut out from the front material. If you don't have a bib at home, there are TONS of templates for bibs on the internet to use!





2. Using coordinating scrap material, cut into strips with pinking shears. Mine were about 1-2 inches wide.



3. Ruffle the strips of fabric by setting your stictch length as long as it will go and the tension as tight as it will go. Sew down the middle of the fabric and it will ruffle up like magic! Do not stay stitch at the ends!



4. Once you made three strips of ruffles, pin to the bib piece. Then sew each ruffle strip again down the center of the ruffle. Be sure to put your stitch length and ruffle back to its normal setting! After sewing, you can use a seam ripper to take out the original stitch you made to ruffle the fabric. But, that is optional!




5. Now take the bib and put it face down on the backing material. I used pink minky dot but you can use flannel, cotton, or even terry cloth. After pinning, sew the bib to the backing. Leave a 2 inch opening to turn the bib right side out.




6. After sewing, cut around the edge of the bib to trim the backing.



***I didn't take pictures of this, but I made three rosettes using more scrap fabric. Again, there are tons of tutorials online on how to make fabric rosettes.***

7. Turn the bib right side out. Sew on your fabric rosettes through the opening of the hole you just used to turn the bib right side out. This step was probably the hardest of the whole process. I broke two needles and broke the thread at this step and I was getting SO frustrated!





8. Now pin the opening closed and top stitch around the entire bib.



9.To complete the bib, add velcro to the neck pieces and sew in place.



How precious is this?! I love that it isn't the usual pink but it is stilly girly and perfect for any little girl. I can't wait to see Miss Emma wearing this bib!

Pirate Party Bunting {tutorial!}

So, when your computer crashes, your posts still get posted even if they weren't done yet! :) You found out my secret- I write up several posts at once, schedule them, and then add in the pictures and links later. Well, that 'later' didn't come today since my computer is MIA. So....I will get this post up to lil Mop Top standards in no time (which won't be hard to do since I have low standards!)

Hope you don't think I put up a totally lame tutorials with no pictures!



I am throwing Matthew's pirate party at the end of the month. (Check out these posts on the invites and a pirate party shirt for John!) I made this fabric bunting to help bring color to the pavillion we will be in at the party.

This was a VERY easy project! I got a bunch of fabric from The Fat Quarter Shop because I won a gift card through KoJo Design. AWESOME!! I got the pom pom trim at JoAnn's. Don't forget your coupon!

I made a triangle template out of carboard. Using a pinking blade on my rotary cutter, I cut out lots of triangles from the different fabrics.

I pinned the triangles along the trim and then zipped them through the sewing machine.

And there you have it- the easiest tutorial ever!

I think it turned out so cute! I even made a smaller one with left over ribbon so I could hang it on the food table at the party. I am so excited to see how it all looks put together.
