Date Night- Scavenger Hunt

Brad and I are once again on a kick to try to do a date night each week. This will usually be something at home once the boys are asleep. So, last weekend we made each other clues to go on a scavenger hunt around the house! We bought a $5 prize while grocery shopping earlier in the day so there was a small reward for finding all the clues.

The clues Brad make up for me were really creative! Clue 1 took me to the trash bags (it is a quote from my favorite movie, Tommy Boy!), Clue 2 took me to our house address.

Clue 3 led me to one of John's books, Clue 4 was hidden under Matthew's formula, and the 5th clue was leading me to the prize by a Toy Story bath book.

Here are my typed clues for Brad and a couple pictures of him searching around the house. He won an A&M hat...made with masking tape. haha! He had a good laugh with it even though he won't actually wear it out of the house. I offered to paint an A&M on it and he said only if I bedazzled it too. :)

This turned out to be more fun than I expected and was a cheap date night!

I link up to these parties!

Family Weekend!

Since Matthew will be here on Thursday (as in FIVE days from now!) we decided to have a 'family weekend' and try to do fun things with John before the chaos begins.

Friday we started out with a super fun doctor appointment for John and then headed to Frisco Commons park. John played on the playground for a little while and then we hit up the splash area. John LOVED the splash area...Brad and I loved it too because it is the only place we have found so far that we can sit and watch John run around. Usually we have to be following him everywhere he goes to make sure he either doesn't run off somewhere or fall some playground equipment!

After lunch at Chick-fil-A (free coupons!) and naps, Brad and John baked chocolate chip cookies together. We used an egg free mix that weren't too bad. Just like when we made cupcakes, John didn't care about eating the cookies once they were baked. What a silly kid!

We finished off the day with a little pool time in the back yard. And yes, John was in the nude. :)

Saturday morning we made colored pancakes. While I was mixing up the colors, I gave him a bowl of water to mix up (I knew he would make a huge mess if I gave him the actual batter!) and he kept drinking the water with his spoon. haha! This was a yummy egg-free pancake recipe I found online that we tried out during the week. Although John liked it on Wednesday, he didn't want to eat his 'J' pancake this morning. Again, he is a silly kid!

After hanging out and relaxing in the morning, we went to the library to get some new books to read and then went to Build-A-Bear. This was John's 'Big Brother' gift since he LOVES his Brown Bear. So he now has Black Bear! I was shocked that with all the bear outfits they had, they didn't have any big brother or big sister shirts! So, I got the most plain shirt I could find (which was a really cute hoodie!) and I am going to try to paint or sew 'Big Brother' on the shirt to make it personalized for John. {check back to see how that project turns out!}. And you can tell from the pictures of me, I am freaking HUGE! and very uncomfortable!

We finished off Saturday with Chili's (horrible service but again we had coupons and gift cards) and once John was asleep Brad and I had our own little date night! We made dessert and then relaxed in the pool. Tomorrow's plans are to make donuts for breakfast from bicuits (egg free!) and then hang around the house. I think I am done with running around- way too big and starting to be painfully uncomfortable. I am soooo looking forward to Thursday! :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Weekly Date Night- Picnic in the Backyard

First of all, I had to share with you that I was featured for a THIRD time this week for one of my crafts I have been working on. I am so excited!! Check out It's a Hodgepdge Life.

Back to the task at hand- my latest date night! So, we kind of let two weeks go without a date. Oops! We can chalk it up to me being sick all the time and us being busy. Anyway, after John went to bed tonight, we had a little picnic in the backyard! All we needed was a blanket and our gourmet dinner of Chick-fil-A. (We actually cooked tonight but didn't like how it turned out and had to supplement!) Another easy date night and especially relaxing when the weather was as gorgeous as it was tonight.

What has been your favorite date with your loved one?

Weekly Date Night- Java Time!

Last week Brad and I headed over to a coffee shop for coffee and hot chocolate for our date night. The timing was perfect because Brad's mom was watching John for the night so we already had plans to get dinner out and run errands sans child. Finishing off the night with coffee and hot chocolate from Corner Bakery was super yummy and easy! Can't get out of the house? Brew a cup o' joe and snuggle on the couch!

Weekly Date Night: Free Movie Night!

For our last date night, we were to rent a classic movie from the library and watch it while eating popcorn. Yeah for a free movie (and a practically free date)! The Frisco Library actually has a really good selection of movies. However, Brad was holding John and looking for a classic while I was in a different section looking for a book. So, Brad came back with a movie, but probably not a 'classic' since he admitted to just grabbing something before John exploded with antsy-ness. Come around date time, we were supposed to watch 'All The Pretty Horses'. However, we decided we would rather watch something we DVR'd and eat ice cream instead of popcorn. Either way, we had a nice 30 minutes to ourselves on the couch! Super fun and easy peasy!

Weekly Date Nights- Baking with my Baby!

Our latest date night was to bake cookies together. Brad makes THE BEST chocolate chip cookies ever so this was quite a treat for me! I would like to say that I helped him with the dough, but instead I stood at the opposite end of the counter hemming my maternity pants.(See, there is a reason my stomach is huge! Although eating lots of cookies and ice cream probably could be a part of it too!) So, even though we weren't technically baking cookies 'together', we were in the kitchen together and spending time together which is all that matters.

We did try to use real butter instead of crisco and some Mexican vanilla that I got as a present. I of course had to taste the dough to make sure it wasn't poisonous or anything. The things I do for Brad! :)

The cookies turned out yummy as usual!

I can't wait to pick another date card tonight!

Weekly Date Night- Sweets for my Sweet

For Christmas, I wanted to give Brad a creative present that was relatively inexpensive. Since we usually sit in the living room and watch TV once John goes to sleep, I decided to make a 'Weekly Date Night' jar. I found lots of ideas online for free or cheap dates, most of which we could do at home when John was sleeping. Every Sunday since Christmas we have picked a date and set a day that week to hang out with each other. I am going to start posting each week what our date was so you can be inspired to spend time with your loved ones too!

Last week our date was to make 'huge, crazy, yummy sundaes'. We happened to have the single serving cups of Blue Bell ice cream (awesome and no need to go to the store!!) so we each had two cups of ice cream topped with goodies. Easy and delcious!

{I promise I don't have two lazy eyes...I was looking at the digital screen on the camera while Brad was taking the picture! hahah!}
